Expedia launches first Australian and New Zealand TV ad
Expedia, the online travel company, has unveiled its first TV and cinema brand campaign for Australia and New Zealand with the tagline “Where you book matters”.
It is the first TV spot to be created by BMF since the agency was appointed to the account in September last year.
The theme of the ad is based around an expansive visual containing hundreds of hotel housekeepers making up beds of different kinds and sizes, acting in unison as they do so.
The company said the imagery aims to convey Expedia’s scale and unique selling proposition as being part of the world’s largest online travel company, while being “uniquely Australasian at the same time”.
Louise Crompton, marketing manager for Expedia.com.au and Expedia.co.nz, said: “We are seeking to break the mould with travellers and demonstrate that it really does matter where you book your travel. Put simply, we want to be the single best place to book travel.”
“Initiatives like dropping booking fees on flights and being the first online travel company to waive change and cancellation fees show our commitment to this goal.”
The TV commercial was directed by Goodoil’s Michael Spiccia and shot at Lake Bathurst in New South Wales with a cast and crew of more than 100 people.
The company also unveiled a redesigned logo.
Mitchell & Partners was also appointed as Expedia’s media agency last year as part of its plans to ramp up its marketing activity from this year.
This is several weeks old, but worth a look. It’s certainly an original way to deal with media criticism.

Shot beautifully though not sure if it demonstrates “that it really does matter where you book your travel.”

Is it just me or does their new logo look like the travel.com.au logo?

Booked a trip with Expedia recently and later had to change the dates because of events beyond my control – what a nightmare! They refused to deal with the airline, and I had to do it all myself. Ten phone calls later I finally got it sorted. Never again.
They need to address their policy and customer service deficit before worrying about slick and expensive ads!

Nice ad! I like it although not sure if it differentiates the brand in any way…
@Yesterday’s News looks like you just became their nightmare

Synchronised swimmers could do no better, but have to agree with Ninja: does it make me care if I book at Expedia or not? The answer is no.

I don’t think they were really aiming to show where you book matters in this case. Remember, it’s their first ad in Australia. They’re trying to show us how big of a company they are and how many “beds” / hotels they sell. I thought it was a brilliant ad that put a smile on my face. Not to mention the entire thing was shot here in Australia!!!
