McCann Melbourne picks up AGL in pitch beating incumbent GPY&R

AGL logoAGL Energy has appointed McCann Melbourne as its creative agency following a pitch, beating out incumbent GPY&R for the business, Mumbrella can reveal.

The company put the account up for pitch last October, with three other agencies, including GPY&R, fighting it out with McCann for the account.

Brand and communications manager Christine Tomaras said: “We want to thank all the agencies that participated in the pitch process. We also thank the talented people at GPY&R for their contribution and passion for the AGL business over the past seven years and wish them all the best for the future.”

GPY&R had held the account since March 2007.

“We are delighted to welcome McCann to the AGL team. The insights, strategy and creative ideas they presented were outstanding and we look forward to working together,” Tomaras added.

AGL launched a new campaign, created by GPY&R Melbourne, in September which aimed to make energy more tangible through showing how important energy is in people’s everyday lives.

According to Mumbrella’s sister marketing intelligence guide The Source AGL has a main media spend of $15m.
