Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries sold to French network

Australian production company Every Cloud Productions has sold its series Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries to French network France 3.

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries was initially produced for ABC1.

The announcement:

In one of the most significant international sales of Australian television drama in recent years, Every Cloud Productions has announced that Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries has been picked up by France 3 – a rare overseas acquisition for the European broadcaster.

Meanwhile, a host of international broadcasters have snapped up second season rights.

TV Norge Norway, Knowledge Network Canada and Canal+ Poland have all continued their commitment.  In further deals, UKTV has renewed the series for Alibi in the UK and Eire, as has Viasat for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, whilst leading DVD distributor Acorn Media has picked up DVD/Video rights for the whole series in the UK, Eire and United States of America.

International sales agent ALL3MEDIA International has now sold the first series to more than 120 territories, including Brazil (Globosat), Denmark (DR TV), USA (Netflix) and Singapore (MediaCorp).  Various pan territory deals are also in place including Asia (Australia Network) and Latin America (Pramer).

Meanwhile, following its huge ratings success on ABC 1 last year, series two of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries begins filming in Melbourne today with director Tony Tilse at the helm.

Essie Davis (The Slap, Cloudstreet) returns as the elegant, unconventional lady sleuth Phryne Fisher along with Ashleigh Cummings (Puberty Blues, Dance Academy) as Dot Williams, Nathan Page (Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo, Redfern Now) as Detective Inspector Jack Robinson, Hugo Johnstone-Burt (Rake, Cloudstreet) as Constable Hugh Collins, Miriam Margolyes (Harry Potter The Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter The Deathly Hollows) as Aunt Prudence, Tammy MacIntosh (Crownies, East West 101) as Dr Mac, Travis McMahon (Howzat! Kerry Packer’s War) as Bert, Anthony Sharpe (City Homicide) as Cec, and Richard Bligh (The Mystery of a Hansom Cab) as Mr Butler.

Produced by Every Cloud Production’s Fiona Eagger and Deb Cox, Miss Fisher’s new adventures are based on Kerry Greenwood’s Phryne Fisher novels Dead Man’s Chest, and the latest installment, Unnatural Habits, and her various short stories, as well as exciting new crimes from the creators of series one.

“It was such a thrill to see Australian audiences embrace the series last year so enthusiastically last year and we can’t wait to show them Miss Fisher’s incredible new adventures.  And its equally thrilling for Deb and me to see how well it translates internationally.  We’re delighted that our heroine is to be embraced by audiences all around the world,” Fiona Eagger says.
