Mix 106.5 gives away house to promote new breakfast show
ARN’s Sydney radio station Mix 106.5 is to promote the launch of its new breakfast team of Andrew Rochford and Claire Hooper with the giveaway of a $500,000 home.
The Great Australian Dream promotion sees the network link up with a series of partners including builder Wisdom Homes. The property is in the new south west Sydney suburb of Gregory Hills.
The competition begins next week and runs until February 24
The size of the giveaway demonstrates the competitive nature of the Sydney radio market with a number of music stations vying for second place behind Austereo’s 2Day FM.
When will radio stations learn that in-house creative is a bad idea.

Great competition, horrendous ad for it.

They should also proof read the badly written copy on the promo landing page : (

Win a house in SW Sydney?
Who’d want to live there?

Were they coached by that hand-model freak? I think I went to school with Gregory Hills as well (OK – it’s marginally better than the copy in the ad).

They look a tad bored, and don’t really inspire you to want to tune and listen to them….

If you look at the demographics of the station, together with the aspirations of those demographics, Mix 106.5 have actually got this promo right. The average Aussie wants the great Australian dream of their own home and home ownership in this great city (or even south-west of the city) is near impossible for many small families. If you don’t like Gregory Hills, who cares, sell it and you’ve suddenly found you can afford a mortgage on the North Shore. The creative could be more enthusiastic, however the reliance on sharing the dream (imagine the kids are playing down the back there….) is all they needed to do to pull on the heart strings. No amount of sound quality was going to improve the imagination of many.

The other morning Claire was talking about how she had worn her undies on backwards to work the day before. Andrew talked about how much time you could save if you could have a colonic irrigation and haircut at the same time.
They need to invest the $500 000 in hiring better producers and writers.

I love that every time I look at the comments under just about any article on this site, the comments are nearly always criticising whatever the article is saying or promoting. It makes me critical of the critics, not the article itself and to me renders their comments invalid. Especially when the comments are mostly about the creative, rather than the promotion which is actually the main point of the article. I agree with Ex Promotion Chick. The point is that many people cannot afford to buy their own home so to win one is a dream come true. I come from the South West and even though it’s not where I want to live now and I don’t live there any longer, I know plenty of people who’d be very happy to win a house there (regardless of whether they live there or sell it and use the money to set themselves up elsewhere). I think that most of these comments must be from creative w*nkers who would not know a good promotion if they fell over it.

And another thing………………..after 1065 spent a year playing hip hop music wounldn’t they be better off spending money on advertising that they again aim at a female skewed over 30s audience?
Mind you – how cool would it be to win a house in a suburb you have never heard of? Priceless?
Next Channel 9 wont be setting The Block in Manly or Bondi but St Gregory.
Or was it Mount Gregory?

It’s going to be a popular competition for people that love entering competitions. Even people that only enter occasionally could sell it if they win as it’s a substantial prize.
