Ovo signs Audi Sport Customer Racing as second motorsport content partner

Barry O’Brien backed telco startup Ovo Mobile has signed its second motorsport content client with Audi Sport Customer Racing coming on board.

The announcement:

OVO Mobile, a disruptive hybrid telco and content business that launched last December with their unique offering of great telco services along with data free access to V8 Supercars content, has just announced their second motorsport partnership with Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia.

Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia, provides full racing services for its driver customers and their 5 Audi R8 LMS race cars. They are the 2015 Australian GT Champions – and lead the 2016 championship going into the Perth event. Managed by Melbourne Performance Centre, they are one of only a few facilities outside of Germany chosen by Audi Sport international to run their Customer Sport program externally.

OVO Mobile will be providing all of the mobile telecommunications services for Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia as well as enabling real time data and in car statistics (telemetry) to be carried over the OVO network to the Audi GT Racing Team.

Team Principal Troy Russell said “It’s amazing to have a sponsorship partner that contributes value that directly goes to fans of the Audi GT Racing team along with content and services. We’ll get the coverage that we need to support the significant travel by the team, as well as essential statistics for our drivers that will support them to enhance their performance and increase their safety in real-time.”

In keeping with OVO tag line #forthefans, OVO will soon release a new version of the OVOPlay app which will add video content from the Audi GT Racing Team, live streaming of in car statistics (telemetry) and audio commentary during the Australian GT Championship. All of this will be available data free for OVO Mobile customers.

“Since announcing our V8 Supercars partnership, OVO has been delighted to have such interest across motoring and sporting bodies globally and are now really excited to partner with Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia and add such a premium brand and category. Ultimately it’s about growing our offering to deliver more value for the fans on their mobiles, data free.” remarked Matt Jones, OVO CEO.

OVO’s Chairman Barry O’Brien commented that “The launch of OVO has been well received across media owners, content creators, numerous sporting bodies and most importantly the customer. We are excited and honoured about the partnership with Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia and it demonstrates the interest OVO has created in the market since our launch earlier this year.”

Australian GT Championship Series continues grow this year, expanding to three series with a four round Endurance Championship and five event Trophy Series joining the six round sprint championship. The next race is the CAMS Australia GT Championship round at Barbagallo Perth coming up this weekend followed by the Shannon’s Nationals series at Phillip Island May 27-28th, then continuing right through to November 13, 2016 across both Australia and New Zealand.
