Westfield tenders sought after in-centre signs

WestfieldOne of the most sought-after out of home contracts in Australia is up for grabs with Westfield in the middle of pitching its portrait and landscape screens business, Mumbrella understands.

The shopping mall giant has denied rumours it has taken the contracts away from incumbent Ooh Media, saying “they are still very much under review”.

The screens are some of the most sought after out of home properties in the country, with retailers looking to take advantage of being close to the point of purchase to sway shoppers.

Bill Burton, Westfield’s general manager of brand space confirmed the company was in the midst of a tender process for its portrait and landscape screens across its shopping centres, with the contracts for both currently held by Ooh Media and due to expire on December 31.

“We have received proposals from the market for these contracts from multiple players, but no decision has been made and they are still very much under review,” he told Mumbrella.

“They are very compelling offers. One of those is Ooh Media and they and our partners will be the first to know.”

He added no timeframe has been put on the review, although it will be decided before the contract expires at the end of the year.

It is unclear how Westfield’s in-house outdoor unit Brandspace will fit into the review.

A statement from Ooh confirmed the company is involved in the tender, adding it “also holds other contracts with Westfield that extend beyond this particular tender.”

The review does not include any of the outdoor signage in car parks owned by the group, which controls more than 40 centres in Australia.
