The curious case of the Stefanovic brothers and the non-existent Uber tapes
Here, Sefiani’s Karen Dunnicliff details the dos and don’ts of crisis management, as told through the strange tale of the Stefanovic brothers, an Uber driver and a non-existent tape.
It’s been about a week since rumours first emerged of the existence of the “Secret Stefanovic Tapes”, an illicit recording of Karl and Peter Stefanovic venting about Channel Nine colleagues.
As the mysterious tapes were allegedly shopped around by an Uber driver, (though it’s now claimed they never existed) speculation about their contents was rife.

What a great memory the guy has, why is he driving an Uber?
And have Uber sacked him?
I don’t blame the Uber driver. If you’re stupid enough to talk sensitive information around untrusted people, then welcome the consequences.
I never use company or full names when discussing items in earshot of the public. It’s common sense.
I’m sorry.
KIddies being shot at and blown up in the middle east, people dying of starvation, homelessness, catastrophic bushfires, floods, cyclones and other similar things are a crisis.
Not two “celebrities” caught out allegedly bagging their workmates.
Get a grip. Jeez…
Of course there are suddenly no tapes, how else could New Idea legally publish and the driver get paid for the story. Yet did he take contemporaneous notes at the time of the incident or soon after? Thus what evidence of the conversation is New Idea relying upon…the driver’s incredibly detailed memory of a 45 min conversation? Please, New Idea, don’t wee on my leg and tell me it’s raining. Sheesh.
Major tv media are adept at damage control, obvious by how few actual star mess-ups make it to cold light of day. Agree this was handled for best outcome at first instance.
However, there’s not much left in the first aid kit when spiteful hits. Drunk, dumb or naked you might climb back from. But these boys and their knives went deep. Doubt if damage control will keep it stitched together.
