Hennessy builds floating basketball court for NBA’s 75th anniversary season

Hennessy Australia has built a floating basketball court in Sydney Harbour, as a part of the brand’s activation campaign to celebrate its partner, NBA’s 75th anniversary season.

The announcement:

Today an epic setting took place as a first-of-its-kind floating basketball court popped up in Sydney Harbour in celebration of Hennessy, the Official Spirit of the NBA (National Basketball Association), and the league’s landmark 75th anniversary season. The activation is the second iteration of ‘Courts Beyond Limits’, a global series of iconic pop-up courts created to celebrate the NBA 75.

Overnight on Sydney Harbour, Hennessy and NBA revealed Australia’s first floating basketball court. Guests were transported via the Hennessy Superyacht to experience the unique courtside view, including all-star basketball sporting activity with international rapping sensation FERG, Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios and Corey ‘Homicide’ Williams. The Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy, the trophy awarded annually by the National Basketball Association to the winner of the NBA Finals, was on display.

The slick monochromatic pop-up court immediately juxtaposed the natural surrounding landscape of Sydney’s crystal blue water and iconic harbour views. As the sun set, the court transitioned into a neon lit party with a surprise performance by FERG set against the stunning backdrop of Sydney harbour. Music throughout the day was provided by local DJ Olivia Suleimon & B-WISE.

Hennessy’s link to art and culture has always been apparent, showcased in the recent campaign ‘Game Never Stops’ – which celebrates the influence that the league, Hennessy, and the sport itself, have had beyond the game and the court in so many unique cultural facets of society.

Guests enjoyed bespoke Hennessy x NBA All-Star Cocktails such the ‘Dropping dimes Colada’ (Hennessy’s take on the Pina Colada, Hennessy V.S, ), ‘Royal Court Espresso Martini’ (Hennessy V.S, Espresso Coffee, Coffee Liqueur, Sugar Syrup) and the ‘Three in the Key Negroni’ (Hennessy V.S, Campari, Sweet Vermouth, Orange Twist), in addition to the classic Hennessy x Ginger Swish (Hennessy V.S, Fever-Tree Ginger Ale, Lime & Mint).

Following the viral court activation at Bondi Icebergs in 2021, Hennessy Australia has created yet another disruptive court experience to celebrate their partnership with the NBA and will continue to push the limits of potential.
