Matt Farrugia resigns as Y&R Melbourne’s managing director

WPP-owned creative agency Y&R’s Melbourne managing director Matt Farrugia has resigned, Mumbrella can reveal.

Mumbrella understands Farrugia resigned two months ago and his departure isn’t related to the recent merger of Y&R and digital agency VML to form VMLY&R.

Farrugia has been with the agency for more than seven years

In late September, WPP announced it would be merging the two agencies to create VMLY&R with the aim of positioning the new agency as a brand experience and brand advertising agency.

The merger will not be completed until early next year, however, VMLY&R will now be run by CEOs of the respective original organisation, Aden Hepburn and Pete Bosilkovski.

Farrugia joined Y&R as its digital director in 2011 and and three years later he was promoted to a managing partner role.

Prior to his near-eight-year stint with the WPP-owned agency, Farrugia was a business director at Wunderman for just over a year. He has also held positions at Cummins & Partners, We Are Digital and SBS.

Farrugia confirmed his departure to Mumbrella.

Y&R declined to comment.
