Planet Ark: Make it wood, do your world some good
Not-for-profit environmental group Planet Ark has launched a campaign to encourage consumers to use wood building materials sourced from sustainably managed forests.
The campaign, targeted at businesses, schools and home renovators, includes a website, makeitwood.org, on which educational videos are running.
“The main hurdle to overcome is getting people to understand that responsibly sourced wood can actually help tackle climate change as it stores carbon. According to a recent survey, 93% of people understood that trees absorb carbon. However, only 39% of people realised that when the tree is responsibly harvested and used to make wood products, the carbon remains locked in the wood for the life of the product,” said Chris Philpot, ‘Make It Wood’ campaign manager, Planet Ark.
The agency behind the campaign was Dynamix, which also handled Planet Ark’s National Tree Day campaign last year.
Ryan Hill, ECD at Dynamix, said: “Trying to convince people to change their mindset on the use of responsibly sourced wood was starting point for the development of the creative. Being an issue that requires a bit of explanation we needed to communicate a fresh perspective quickly and engage our audience to find out more. We devised an action-orientated campaign name ‘Make It Wood,’ coupled with the line ‘Do your world some good’ to highlight the benefit. The look and feel for the site followed suite and was made from wood, or more accurately, wood pixels.”
Lovely.

Now let’s all hold hands, and drink the cup of Kool Aid!
It’s deeply depressing to think kids aren’t given the chance to consider these issues on their merits, but instead, are being indoctrinated by left-wing orthodoxies and never made aware that there are 2 sides to every story.
Planet Ark and their Greens Party ilk are no different to their historical dopplegangers who indoctrinated children in 1930’s Germany, 1960’s Cultural Revolution China, and 1970’s “Kampuchea”.
History will judge them accordingly.

Nice.
Outlines the problem and provides a practical solution.
Greenpeace Indonesia – take note.

Nice Idea but they fail to tell the whole story, an increase in atmospheric carbon causes an increase in the amount of algae in the Ocean which absorbs more of the carbon in the atmosphere, the real increase in human carbon emissions needed to cause even a slight warming of the planet is massive…. I could go on…..
