ABC to launch Paper Giants sequel

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has revealed that a sequel to the successful series Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo is set to hit Australian screens soon.

The ABC sequel will cover the 1990s Sydney-based rivalry of Dulcie Boling and Nene King, the women behind the popular magazines New Idea and Woman’s Day.

The rivalry between the two editors was sparked when King joined Woman’s Day, leaving her colleague Boling at New IdeaKing transformed Woman’s Day into a market-dominating circulation selling more than one million copies a week.

Southern Star Productions will again take the reins with producer John Edwards and directed by Daina Reid, following on from Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald article, ABC casting has not yet been confirmed and the actors roles have not been selected.

The original series Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo received 1.2 million viewers nationally, a prominent figure for the new series to match.

Network Nine also has a Paper Giants spinoff, in the works. Howzat is about Kerry Packer’s “extraordinary rise to become the most influential businessman in the history of Australian sport”. Nine has confirmed the role of Kerry Packer has been re-cast from Rob Carlton to Lachy Hulme.
