Australia’s Got Talent grand final smashes 2m

The two-hour grand final of Australia’s Got Talent, where the country’s top rookie performers sung it out for a $250,000 prize, pulled in an impressive 2.192m, according to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam.

This eclipses last year’s grand final ratings, which pulled in 1.831m.

It also beats the final of Junior Masterchef, which averaged 1.9m, but is no match for last year’s Masterchef final, which attracted an average of 3.962m.

The Seven show, which aired at the same time as Masterchef in the 7.30pm slot, pushed the Ten show down to 1.356m. The Block, which was on at 7pm, was the third most-watched show of the night, with 1.512m.

The debut of Dinner Date pulled in more than a 1m for Seven, while the third episode of The Renovators, which followed Masterchef on Ten at 8pm, held firm with 974,000 – almost the same audience as yesterday.

Meanwhile Top Gear pulled in 657,000 for Nine, a reasonable performance since the ratings drop off during the last season.

It was another close run race between Today and Sunrise, with the latter winning by 30,000 viewers, with 351,000.
