Bauer set for more launches
Publisher Bauer Media has signalled that it plans to launch new magazine titles before the year is out.
Although the company did not reveal details, the hint from CEO Matthew Stanton came during an event in Sydney designed to underline the publisher’s credentials in reaching women of all ages.
Stanton told the audience that the publisher planned “a couple of launches” before the end of the year.
The magazine group, previously ACP Magazines, was bought by the German owned Bauer in 2012.
After his speech, Stanton declined to be drawn in which niches the new titles would launch, but indicated to Mumbrella that they would be local creations rather than based on any of Bauer’s international franchises.
After a period of almost no launch activity in the magazine market, Bauer launched fashion title Elle in September last year.
I hear they have an online competitor for AFR in mind.

Amazing that people are adding titles. Take public transport and its spot the person with newspaper or magazine.

The more interesting revelation was that Bauer are bundling together the women’s magazines websites and offering them as a network. That’s stage one and stage two will be to offer performance based digital campaigns across that audience, rather than just narrowly targeting specific mastheads. The great thing about that is sooner or later, I won’t have to bother booking into the magazines print issues at all! Something awfully familiar about all this. It’s like watching fairfax in 2004. Stanton has it wrong.
Whilst I’m at it, how would all the other mags feel that are not in the women’s network? Given my comment above you’d think it’s a blessing, but the fact is they’re more likely set for the chop. Alvederzane pets.
