Cannes Grand Prix-winning director Tov Belling to direct Bosch ad
The director behind Leo Burnett Melbourne’s Cannes grand prix-winning commercial for Scope has been hired to shoot a new TV ad for Bosch.
Tov Belling, a cinematographer turned director at production company The Pound, is to direct the first campaign for Bosch since The Sphere Agency replaced DDB Melbourne on the account last month.
The Sphere Agency has a brief to promote Bosch’s ‘Green’ power tools range in Australia and New Zealand.
Belling won one of two Australian grand prixs at Cannes for Scope, which also won a gold lion.

Shooting for the commercial is to begin on Wednesday.
I take it that production companies and/or agencies are now PRing the fact that a director is about to shoot a job.
First Garth, now Tov.
This seems to be a new development. One that I’m not sure is really very newsworthy at all.

Hi Hmmm…,
This story was not press released to us. I thought it may be interesting because of Tov’s recent success at Cannes, plus the fact that he is only 12 months into a career as a director having started out as a cinematographer.

Good work guys, I’m looking forward to the end product.

That’s cool.
Tov’s a good guy, and definitely on the up: one to watch for sure. I just found it odd that you’ve got both the Tov and Garth posts up together. Normally, a director about to shoot a TVC isn’t really much of a story. We usually wait until after they’ve shot it and have something to show.
Thought it looked like a trend (and a dubious one at that).

Hi Hmmm…,
We haven’t covered the production side of the industry in too much detail to date (a mention in credits lists has been about it), and knowing a bit about ads in the pipeline before they hit the air is, perhaps, of interest to some readers. Particularly since the directors we have written about are among only a handful to do well for Australia at Cannes this year.
Thanks for your feedback.
Cheers,
