Secrets and Lies, the upcoming Ten drama series has been acquired by Channel 5 in the UK.

The series, which Ten promoted at its recent upfronts as the “drama event of the year” recently had its format acquired by the US network ABC, while TV2 in Norway has also confirmed its acquisition with a further seven international networks in negotiation.

Secrets and Lies is a whodunnit series following the events that unfold after a small child is found dead, and Ten has yet to announce when the series will air in 2014. The series is expected to include world first multi-platform elements including Ten’s companion app Zeebox. It was shot in Brisbane earlier this year.

Tracey Robertson, Hoodlum CEO, said: “From the moment we started collaborating about Secrets and Lies, we knew that we had an incredible piece of television in our hands. This acquisition, before the show has even launched in Australia, alongside the recent commissioning of a US version, is testament to the quality of this.”

The cast of the Australian version includes Martin Henderson, Diana Glenn and Anthony Hayes. The US network ABC will look to start casting their production with an expected broadcast date in 2014.

Rick Maier, head of drama at Ten said: “This is a sensational early response and full credit to the cast and crew.”

Secrets and Lies Australia is co-financed by Network Ten, Screen Queensland, Screen Australia and Cineflix Rights.
