McCann Australia has promoted Pat Baron, the creative director behind the award-winning Dumb Ways to Die campaign, to executive creative director of McCann Melbourne, Mumbrella can reveal.

The appointment comes after Dejan Rasic was appointed ECD of McCann Sydney in March, with the pair to support national ECD John Mescall, who has become increasingly involved in the McCann network regionally and internationally over the last 12 months.

Baron, who is the most awarded creative director in the world in the last year, joined McCann in 2012 following the reverse takeover with independent Smart, and has worked on campaigns such as Dumb Ways to Die, Impossible Orchestra for the federal government, Guilt Trip for V/Line and the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation’s 100-Day Challenge.

In a statement Mescall said: “Pat’s new role is more than recognition for a job (very) well done. It’s also recognition of Pat’s hunger to continue to drive McCann’s efforts to remain on the righteous path towards being Australia’s most constantly excellent creative agency.

“As the most awarded creative director in the world over the past year and with the incredible respect he has won from our clients for his commitment to the quality of our creative product, Pat is a key player in achieving that goal.

“In Pat and Dejan I know we have two of the very best creative leaders in the country. We’re incredibly lucky.”

Earlier this year, McCann Melbourne tied with Nike’s agency Wieden + Kennedy Portland in The Gunn Report.
