Audio specialist Eardrum wins Australia’s only gold Radio Lion
Australia picked up three lions – two less than 2011 – in a quiet year for Australian radio at Cannes.
Radio specialist Eardrum, with Sapient Nitro Brisbane, won gold for Earphone bully.
Leo Burnett Sydney picked up two bronzes, both for Bundaberg Red. Shortlisted entries from JayGrey and Whybins missed out.
Australian entries into the category were up from 72 in 2011 to 90 this year.
The grand prix winner – one of the most talked about at the festival so far this week – came from Brazil. Agency Talent Sao Paulo used a radio frequency – inaudible to humans – to repel mosquitos.
Australian juror Jason Williams, ECD of Leo Burnett Melbourne lamented on an “average year” for Australian radio.
