R/GA Sydney appoints Andy Wright as managing director

Andy_02R/GA Sydney has appointed Interbrand general manager Andy Wright as managing director who will work alongside current managing director Ameer Yousef who, after a period of transition, will be transferring back to R/GA New York.

Wright joins the agency after two-and-a-half years with Intebrand where he held the role of general manager across the agencies’ Sydney and Melbourne offices.

He will report to R/GA’s founder, chairman and CEO Bob Greenberg and be responsible for “driving and shaping the office’s long-term strategic roadmap and vision, developing new business and overseeing recruitment of the top talent in the region”.

Greenberg said in a statement: “Andy’s history of executing award-winning, innovative work for major brands while strategically growing an office, both in headcount and revenue, made him an ideal choice as R/GA Sydney’s new Managing Director.

“His appointment will allow the solidification of a long-term management structure for the Sydney office, creating a fantastic foundation for further growth.”

Since Yousef opened the Sydney office in January 2013, the office has grown to 25 in headcount, the agency says the appointment of Wright “will enable the office to expand both its client roster and its own multidisciplinary teams”.

During his time with Interbrand, Wright was involved in winning new clients for the Melbourne office, including Australia Post and Medibank. He also led the rebranding of Queensland Art Gallery.

Originally from the UK, Wright has previously worked in Sydney with ACP Magazines for three years as marketing director, with Landor as a director – brand consulting and in London he was a marketing manager for Ask Jeeves.

In a statement he said: “R/GA is still relatively a young agency in Australia and I’m delighted to be working with a team who is already flying high.”

“As clients begin to embrace new business and marketing models in Australia, I strongly believe that we’re uniquely positioned to offer our clients products and services that will enable more frequent, meaningful interactions with their consumers.”

R/GA Sydney has recently won the creative account for Red Bull.
