JWT helps Ryan Giggs walk on water
Here’s a great ad from JWT Sydney.
It features Manchester United players Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs and Ji-Sung Park walking (and playing) on water.
This one feels like it’s got massive viral potential.
It also marks JWT Sydney’s first piece of work for Smirnoff in Asia Pacific.

Cool. Is this Sydney’s work though? Or global?

Gomes wouldn’t have missed it

Very nice.
I do find vodka and football a funny mix but the creatives have done a stellar job of making me not care about that.

That is all Rio is good for these days, standing about wetting himself.

Massive potential to go viral? Really? I just don’t know who’d send it on to be honest… Their drinkers (predominantly women) aren’t likely to because they don’t know who those people are and don’t particularly care for football (cue “Shazza42” telling me how much she loves football). It’s clearly targetting men but there’s no amazing skill, gag / dick jokes, or boob shots for them to feel the need to send it on. Are guys who are in to football going to drop that link in to an email with the title – “check out this art direction”. Great looking but I’m not sure of the point…

What do we think about using sports teams for this kind of thing? As a Man City fan this would only make me *less* likely to buy Smirnoff (Yes, I’m that petty). 90% of football fans hate Man Utd, so I’m never sure who this sort of thing is supposed to appeal to. Having some (even the same) footballers in generic kits would reduce this effect, no?
It’s why, for instance, that Celtic and Rangers always have the same sponsor – not doing so would pretty much just guarantee that 50% of Glasgow would never purchase their product. Any thoughts?

Classy! I can see this one going viral for sure! I’ve already shared it but then I am female and I love football so…

Really? That’s it? Can any of you tell me that this sparks any sort of emotion in you?
We know that with all the technology that we have at our fingertips we can create any sort of image we want, and this all the creatives could come up with?
If an HSC student turned this in you’d say, “Okay, you can run a macbook pro, but after one viewing of this I’m as bored as batshit. Come back when you have a good idea”.

Nicely executed but would have been far more effective if they used Gareth Bale, Jermain Defoe & Luka Modric.
Just a thought

@Nic You forgot Crouchy!!

Ha! Jermain Defoe wouldn’t have been able to keep his head above water. Cheers for clarifying Tim. The reason I asked though is that I thought it was just part of Man Utd’s deal with Smirnoff as official alcohol partner (along with Singha). Will Aussies be interested in this?
