Stephen Leeds appointed The New Daily’s commercial director
Online news site The New Daily has appointed Stephen Leeds as its new commercial director.
Leeds spent nearly three years at the Australian Radio Network as Melbourne sales director before departing in September.
He previously spent more than 12 years with Network Ten, eventually becoming GM of its Brisbane operation.
Earlier in his career, Leeds worked in communications agencies including as media group head of what is now George Patterson Y&R.
Although it takes advertising, The New Daily is also bankrolled by superannuation funds. It is produced on their behalf by a subsidiary of Solstice Media which also publishes Adelaide news site InDaily.
Prior to the appointment of Leeds, the site’s advertising was handled by sales house Inception, which went out of business in June
Publisher Paul Hamra said in a statement: “Stephen has the depth and breath of experience to help position the company alongside Australia’s top news websites in the market and drive our innovative revenue strategy.”
Leeds said: “Our unique audience and multi-media delivery strategy provides a valuable platform for advertisers and look forward to growing the team and the business as we deliver innovative digital solutions,” he said.
After launching in November 2013, The New Daily now has around 40 employees and claims 1.7 million users.
No wonder News and Fairfax are worrying about The New Daily. They can obviously see it getting bigger and bigger in their rear vision mirrors. Stephen’s a great get.

Cutting down trees to read the news is a thing of the past, nostalgia or not times have changed, people are on the move constantly and want information at their finger tips. Stephen did a terrific job in QLD for Ten and will make good of this opportunity, where can I sign up for advertising.
