Peter Lavelle

Peter Lavelle graduated with a medical degree from Sydney University in 1983 and practiced as a GP for several years before becoming a full-time journalist and writer in 1992. His experience includes:
Editor of the Careers Section of the Medical Journal of Australia Sep 2010 – March 2011.
Journalist and Broadcaster 2002 – 2010 for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Science and Health web sites. At the ABC he wrote a weekly online column (‘The Pulse’) and did regular radio broadcasts for ABC local radio stations around Australia (approximately 1000 radio interviews), as well as making programs for ABC Radio National’s All in the Mind and Ockham’s Razor.
Freelance writer 1993 – 2013 for range of newspapers and magazines including the Sydney Morning Herald (over 200 stories for Money and other sections), the Australian Financial Review, the Age, the West Australian, Medical Observer, Open Road, Australian Doctor, Money in Practice, Living Well, Information Week, Australian Property Investor, Cosmos, Health Reader, the Hep Review, Inside Film and ABC Science Online.
Freelance editor in publishing industry 1993 – 2013 for book publishing companies Random House, Global Publishing, Reader’s Digest, McGraw Hill Educational and others.
Writer for television and radio 1989 – 1992; including an episode of the Channel 7 drama series “A Country Practice (1989); three radio drama scripts for ABC radio (1990); also writer/director of a stage play ‘Lipstick on a Gorilla’ Stables Theatre (2002); director of two short plays at Short and Sweet Festival (2012, 2013); director of David Williamson’s ‘Money and Friends’ (Genesian Theatre 2012) and ‘Dangerous Corner ‘ by J B Priestly (Genesian 2013).
