Half Dome makes head of commercial redundant in agency restructure

Independent media agency Half Dome has made its head of commercial Paul Wilkinson redundant in a move to “reassess” its commercial and investment functions and operations.

Wilkinson joined the agency from Spark Foundry two years ago and was tasked with “elevating Half Dome’s offline investment function, and overseeing all commercial client outcomes”.

“I went in and kind of set up all of the commercial functions for them. I’ve provided the foundation for a lot of the revenue, a lot of the media investment partnerships and things like that,” he told Mumbrella.

“I suppose from that point of view, my work was done. That part of the agency is kind of up and running, and the team is self-sustaining now.”

Wilkinson said he understood the agency was looking to build out its finance team, which he can’t necessarily contribute to without proper accreditation. However, the exit was amicable and he is now looking forward to a new role where he could put his skill set to full use.

“We’ve all walked away as friends still, which is nice, and I wish them all the best. They’re a good bunch. They know what they’re doing.”

It is understood that there are no other redundancies in the agency apart from Wilkinson.

Joe Frazer, head of growth at Half Dome said the agency is taking some time to reassess after a growth period.

This comes after the agency repositioned its offering four months ago, ‘Half Dome, Whole Potential’.

“Half Dome has been through growth at pace over the past 12 months and, not uncommon when organisations experience such growth, it’s sometimes necessary to reassess role requirements, and this is what we have done with our commercial and investment functions and operations, which we will be announcing shortly,” he said.

“Paul has been part of revolutionary change at Half Dome, with his expertise and support across many teams within our business giving a hugely important contribution during his time with the agency.

“Wilko has been a huge part of Half Dome’s journey, and has become and remains a close friend of all in our leadership team, we thank and we wish him well on future endeavours.”

As for what’s next, Wilkinson said: “I’m taking a little bit of a break. Well, I’m being forced to take a break.

“I’m doing a little bit of self-education. I’m learning some more hands-on stuff.

“I may do something myself, we’ll see. But otherwise, I’m on the hunt really for whatever that next thing is.”
