Jules Lund returns to his roots with drivetime gig at new startup, Disrupt Radio

Media presenter and entrepreneur Jules Lund is set to return to radio after an extended absence, with a drivetime show at soon-to-launch digital radio startup, Disrupt Radio.

Lund will host a weekday drivetime (4-6pm) show called Start-Up Nation, focused on business, entrepreneurship and innovation once the digital radio network launches in the coming months. He joins Libby Gore, who will present the breakfast slot.

Lund was a TV, radio and digital presenter at Southern Cross Austereo until 2017, when he decided to focus on his influencer marketing platform Tribe, which he founded in 2015.

In Start-Up Nation, Lund will be discussing various fields of business, including marketing, law, people and culture, equity raising, cybersecurity and mental health.

Disrupt Radio, founded by Broadcast Intelligence CEO Benjamin Roberts, has had a number of high-profile additions to its team, including former ABC managing director Michelle Guthrie as a board director. The Australian Financial Review reported last month that the company has hired around 20 employees, including presenters.

The company is set to start broadcasting across Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane within this year through live radio and ad-supported podcasts. It does not hold a license for FM or AM radio, being an exclusively digital product online and on DAB+.

“Entrepreneurship is one of the fastest growing segments in this country. The best part is that it’s not limited to any age, gender, socio-economic background. It’s a spirit. A hunger,” Lund told Mumbrella.

“But it’s also a confronting journey at times. You constantly feel out of your depth. You need guidance but many lack the personal network and the online content isn’t exactly relevant to the next gen of Aussie innovators.

“I’ve found that business news in this country is either dry and intimidating because it’s designed for suit wearing men in the chairman’s lounge or its social inspo full of Americanized cliches delivered by macho crossfit junkies.”

Lund added that the content of the show will not just be for startups, but also small businesses, scale ups, solopreneurs, internal innovators or “anyone with a hunger”.

“The journey I experience – and those around me – is actually one of vulnerability. Yeah we need inspiration, but we desperately crave guidance from everyday coaches. Practical and relatable experts across all the pillars of business; marketing, fund raising, mental health, people & culture, legals, AI and everything in between,” he said.

“So that’s the opportunity I see here. To build a platform that connects mavericks with the world’s best coaches who love what they do and want to see others thrive.”
