Mumbrellacast: Ten in 2020, big CMO moves, ‘Wang Watch’, and we sit down with Bachelorette Angie Kent

In this week’s Mumbrellacast, editor Vivienne Kelly sits down with this year’s Bachelorette Angie Kent to chat about the transition from Goggleboxer to reality TV mainstay. They also discuss leveraging TV appearances into media careers, whether the Goggleboxers have become too media trained, and if she cares about The Bachelorette’s ratings.

In the news chat, the team also pulls apart Ten’s 2020 upfronts, including the play for diversity with new Masterchef hosts Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen, the two upcoming seasons of Survivor, and its refreshed ad buying platform, Buy 10.

On the other end of the reality TV spectrum, Seven’s prime-time offering, Bride and Prejudice, is on the decline, bringing in metro ratings in the 300,000s. But, with a new CMO, Charlotte Valente, and the network’s upfronts around the corner, the team is keen to see what Seven will roll out for next year.

It was also a week of colourful journalism: The Daily Telegraph sent a journalist in a bee costume to the Extinction Rebellion protests and NW Magazine brought back the sealed section ‘Wang Watch’. The team discusses whether Wang Watch, which features compromising images of Prince Philip and celebrity chef Pete Evans, breaches the Press Council’s principle protecting people’s ‘reasonable expectations of privacy’. However, according to a statement provided to ‘chief wang reporter’ Vivienne Kelly, Evans was fine with it.
