SBS adds Al Jazeera to world news line-up

The SBS will begin broadcasting the Al Jazeera news from Monday 8 August as ahalf hour English news bulletin weekdays at 3.30pm and a full hour on Sunday afternoons at 2pm, on SBS One.

The broadcast adds to SBS’s international news programming that already includes PBS News Hour from the USA and The Journal from Germany’s Deutsche Welle.

SBS Director of News and Current Affairs, Paul Cutler said in a statement, “SBS is the home of news in many languages from around the world, and it’s great to have one of the fastest growing voices in international news and current affairs join our English-language line-up. Al Jazeera is watched by millions of people, in all corners of the world, and we think SBS viewers will appreciate their fresh perspective on global events.”

Al Jazeera English began broadcasting on November 16 2006.
