CommBank reveals its ‘Can’ characters in new James Magnussen pre-Olympics ad
CommBank’s new “Can” campaign has headed in a new direction with the introduction of comedy characters featuring the three letters C, A and N, and their enemy T.
The ad features swimmer James Magnussen whose Olympic efforts are sponsored by CommBank. He was unveiled as an ambassador at the beginning of the month.
The ad features C, A and N boosting Magnussen’s self belief, while T talks him down.
The new CommBank campaign has been created by M&C Saatchi. Other ads will feature hockey star Jodie Schulz and javelin thrower Kim Mickle between now and the end of the Olympic Games.
This campaign is truly stunning in its unerring ability to continually hit new lows.

I asked Comm Bank for a $10k business overdraft last week. Guess what they said?
Can’t.
Ho hum.

Wowsers. The only redeeming feature in that ad is James Magnussen.

Clients always get the kind of advertising campaigns they deserve.
So the idea of this campaign is about letters ?
Could it be that is how “CBA” found “M&C”.
Sponsor the Olympics. And ensure all the boys with the cigars get
to go. CR@P!

Poor T got bullied off a cliff by those CANs.

Fun spot, such a refreshing change from the usual jingoistic rubbish that’s served up around Olympic time.

Gee, that’s brilliant! NOT. About as irrelevant as the launch ad with Toni Collette. I am a commbank customer and cringing at every new ad in the campaign.

Oh guys come on it’s a brillant ad!
*I promise I don’t work for CBA.

Cool! A big serious bank not taking itself seriously. This could go somewhere if the dialoue/gags are given a bit more love. Be a nice brief for a writer with some comedy skills.

Comedy is a great way of describing how this campaign is unfolding Pete, but sadly, it’s more like laughing at you, rather than with you.

Na, this has got potential. Think Jack Black meets Smarties.

No. 15 We have all been thinking just the same thing.
That anti “CAN” ad campaign virtually wrote itself.
Hopefully that Viral stuff will start spamming outdoor sites,
and we might have a Banksy style revolt that the big 4
cannot ignore.
Not my line but “There is more power with the people, than
with the people in power”.
Would NOT want to be the dude who oversaw this campaign if it did
ever take hold.

I’m not sure that the best Olympics preparation is being chased around the countryside by a pack of CANT’s.

Any reason why the bank has taken down their launch spot?

Comm bank has a great sense of humour! I’ve totally bought this whole campaign. They really are a funny aspirational brand that I must have my money with. Doing the Can-Can right now in tribute as they once again CAN’T pass on the full rate drop. Piss off and take the rest of them with you! Can’t wait till account numbers are portable and we can move our money from bank to bank at will, hopefully One Big Switch will turn its hand to banking and make them really work hard for personal account holders.

Hi Ben,
I understand they only licenced it with Toni Collette for the first few days of the campaign
