2012 South Australian Screen Awards Nominees Announced

The Media Resource Centre – South Australia’s centre for screen culture development – is pleased to announce the nominations for the 2012 South Australian Screen Awards (SASA).

Now in its 13th year as SA’s premier screen awards, SASA continues to reward excellence and outstanding achievement from South Australian-based filmmakers.

With thousands of dollar in cash and prizes, SASA provides an exciting platform for South Australian screen practitioners to showcase their work across drama, comedy, documentary, animation, music video, non-narrative and digital media.

SASA also recognises the invaluable contribution made by SA key ‘creatives’, offering awards in eight craft categories, as well as two jury prizes recognising notable contributions from SA’s up-and-coming young filmmakers.

SASA continues to grow in size and scope along with the quality of short form screen production in this state. This year the MRC received over 80 entries, with 65 local filmmakers being nominated across 20 award categories.

All 2012 nominated films are now in the running for the Best Short Film Award, which carries a cash prize of $3000, courtesy of the SA Film Corporation.

A highlight of this year’s SASA was the record number of entries received in our music video category. It was an extremely difficult job for the judges to whittle the 19 outstanding clips down to just six nominees.

While the SASA’s primarily celebrate those working in short films, the MRC introduced a Best Feature category in 2009, to acknowledge the increasing number of independent features being driven by South Australians in key creative roles.

The SASA Gala Awards night is a key event in the SA film industry calendar. The SASA Gala Awards Ceremony will be held at the recently redesigned Mercury Cinema on Fri April 20th. Doors open 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

Tickets are STRICTLY LIMITED and go on sale April 2nd. Contact Jane Howard on 8410 0979 or info@mrc.org.au to book your ticket to THE premiere short film event in SA.
