Wonderland wins for Ten while Gruen performs for ABC
Ten’s Sydney beach drama Wonderland has delivered the network a hit in its target advertising demographic, with the show making its debut as the most watched among 25-54 year olds on Wednesday night.
The show was also fifth among all people, with a total metro audience of 948,000, one of the network’s best performances of the year.
Meanwhile, ABC1’s Gruen Nation, exploring the marketing strategies behind the election, also performed very strongly – rating 1.052m, third for the night. ABC1’s The Hamster Decides, from The Chaser team, rated 774,000 viewers and won its 9.30pm timeslot.
Seven’s improv-based Slideshow was seventh for the night with an an audience of 932,000, according to the preliminary overnight metre ratings from OzTAM.
In a further coup for Ten, Masterchef beat Nine’s Big Brother, by 807,000 to 791,000, and was also ahead in 25-54.
The first session of the fourth Ashes test rated 414,000 for Nine’s secondary channel Gem.
The strong performance of Ten and ABC1, tightened the usual share battle, with all four major networks close. Seven was top with 18.4 per cent with Nine on 16.6 per cent. But Ten was close behind on 14.6 per cent, one of its best shares in recent months, and ABC1 was on 14.4 per cent. Gem had an 8.3 per cent share.
In the morning battle, Seven’s Sunrise edged closer to a straight fortnight of wins for new host Samantha Armytage, beating Nine’s Today by a comfortable 395,000 to 315,000 and, unusually, winning in all five capital cities.

Congrats to all those involved with Wonderland. It was a good first ep, and i think it can only mature from here. Reminded me a little of Secret life of us, but Aussie story tellers are good at this genre so power to them, anything that brings us away from reality tv and back to good character based story telling can only be a good thing.

Wonderland (Home & Away South) I’ll be curious to see how it performs in coming weeks after it loses the audience that were watching expecting it to reflect the actual Bondi cultural experience.

I wouldn’t rate 948’000 as a hit. With the amount of promotion this show has gotten, and the production values along with it, it should have gotten at least a million. Chances are the ratings will stabilise much lower, but I hope they can still get the audience to lift somewhat. The moment people realise Ten can still produce good shows, it’ll lift.

Slide Show has won it’s slot for three weeks in a row. Very strong.

At some point the TV station marketing departments will recognise that overplaying advertising and promotion of upcoming shows, can actually damage them.
This years Masterchef is an example, i was sick of it before it arrived and now i dont need to watch it, because every ad break tells me what has happened and what is about to happen.
Didnt anyone do advertising 101?

Was Masterchef’s ratings helped by Wonderland as pple were tuning in to see the first ep? Slideshow is a good family fun show. Need more like that. Forget the cheesiness and Denyer. He needs ajob
