Bachelorette Angie Kent asks pal Yvie Jones for online shopping help in new Ebay ad

Former Bachelorette Angie Kent and her Gogglebox partner Yvie Jones star in Ebay’s latest ad, which sees Kent video chat Jones for advice on which clothing items to buy from the platform.

CHE Proximity, which was appointed to Ebay’s creative roster a year ago, and 72 And Sunny were not involved with the campaign, which premiered during Wednesday night’s launch of Bachelor in Paradise. Rather, Ten approached Ebay with the idea, and the ad was created by ViacomCBS ANZ’s creative production team, Imagine.

Mediacom, which was awarded the brand’s global media account a year ago, said the ad acts as the first instalment of a bigger series that will run for the rest of the year and into 2021.

“We recommended a series of fun, cheeky and engaging TVCs fronted by Australia’s latest Bachelorette and favourite ex-Goggleboxers: Angie & Yvie to complement our existing TV campaign,” said client director Lynsey Mogridge.

“Now live, this is the first TVC from an ongoing series that will each align thematically to popular tentpole programmes, whilst also showcasing a variety of relevant products found on eBay which contextually align to each programme. By using search trends, each TVC will focus on key products that we know Australia is already avidly searching for.

“We have no doubt that this campaign will serve as a fun content series and will take Australians on a journey through eBay and its abundant product offering well into early 2021.”

An Ebay spokesperson also confirmed Kent and Jones’ ongoing involvement with the brand, and said the pair are “a great fit for Ebay”.

“Not only do they love good value and style but they’re fun and down-to-earth,” the spokesperson said.

“The ad premiered [on Wednesday night] during Bachelor in Paradise. We know Ten viewers love Angie from her days on The Bachelorette and Yvie is a great partner for Angie having delighted viewers during their time together on Googlebox.

“Let’s just say, expect to see more from this engaging duo partnering with eBay throughout the year.”

Kent shares her screen with Jones to show her what she’s looking to buy on Ebay

This week, Ebay announced a partnership with Australian Made to support local manufacturers. The business said that it is home to 40,000 Australian retailers.

“When Ten came to us with this idea, we jumped at the chance to create contextually relevant content for the 11 million Aussies that come to ebay.com.au each month,” the spokesperson continued.

“Working with their team, we’ve been able to showcase the best deals and top brands you can buy via our community of 40,000 Aussie retailers.”

A spokesperson for Ten said the network was a natural partner for Ebay.

“When we discussed the concept and objectives for eBay’s campaign, we knew we could bring it to life with friends of the Network, Angie and Yvie, who are much loved by our viewers and synonymous with a number of our shows.

“We know from our research that including talent generates significant lifts in ad recall and likeability. We had a lot of fun working with eBay, Angie and Yvie on this campaign. It was a true collaboration and a great example of how to effectively leverage talent into a campaign.”

The entire shoot was conducted via Zoom during COVID-19 restrictions.
