Beat Magazine unveils gig guide and website with brand new look

Australian music title Beat Magazine has launched a new gig guide and unveiled a revamped look after 33 years of operation.

The new branding will roll out across a new website as well as the print title.

The gig guide will have all new functionality and feature events beyond Beat Magazine’s HQ of Melbourne, including the option to search within a certain radius or by suburb, and for musicians and venues to list their own events.

Punters will also be able to search by music genre or category with direct links to tickets and the ability to add to calendar through the guide.

Beat Magazine founder and director Rob Furst said the new design is aimed at giving users the best Beat experience possible.

“The Beat team and their collaborators have designed and delivered best practice in terms of functionality, feel and user experience,” said Furst.

“That means rock’n’roll, arts, comedy, festivals and everything else you need to know being presented better than ever before — part of our continuing journey to lead the way digitally while retaining our independent voice and 33 years of music and cultural heritage.”

The magazine will also be extending the topics it covers beyond the music, arts and entertainment scenes, leading into gaming, film and television. But it will still continue running interviews with musicians, covering live performances and producing music-focused video content.

“Like always, we’re proud to support our music, arts and entertainment scene. Beat’s evolution, both in print and digitally, maintains a constant thread within Australian culture — and now, Beat is more accessible than ever,” said Patrick Carr, managing director.

Ruby Furst, digital director, said she was excited to take things to the next level.

“As Melbourne’s most comprehensive Gig Guide, we’re proud to have developed new functionality that gives our readers more. We’ve designed it for both punters and planners, so now they can find live entertainment — comedy, music or otherwise — on any night of the week, and in any suburb. With the addition of user-generated content, we’re looking forward to seeing it continue to expand.”
