Destination Gold Coast tells Aussies: ‘You deserve a holiday’

Destination Gold Coast has released the third and final instalment of its series of videos which have slowly welcomed tourists back to the region.

The new video sends the message that ‘You deserve a holiday’, and highlights the newly opened theme parks as well as the Sky Point observation deck and the Get Wet Surf School.

The series kicked off in May with the tourism body thanking parents dealing with the challenges of isolating at home with children. It was followed by the Gold Coast ramping up its marketing efforts to encourage intrastate travel amongst Queensland residents.

The series of videos has acted as a prelude to a $2.5m interstate campaign that is scheduled to launch on 26 July.

Destination Gold Coast CEO, Annaliese Battista, said: “After months of restrictions, uncertainty and struggles, we’re thrilled to be at a stage where it’s safe to welcome back families to experience Australia’s favourite playground once again.

“Whether it’s relaxation, long lunches and a solid night’s sleep, or high adventure, fun and thrill time – the Gold Coast is the perfect place to come back and play.

“Our operators have demonstrated incredible resilience and creativity, and now we’re thrilled that the time has come to welcome families from interstate, and keep taking strides towards an economic recovery.”

Queensland’s borders reopened to interstate visitors (except those from Victoria, and the Liverpool and Campbelltown local government areas in NSW) on July 10. Battista said that the region has already seen the positive effects of the increase in tourism.

“We’ve already seen green shoots from interstate visitors returning to the Gold Coast since Queensland’s borders opened last week, and we’re cautiously optimistic in expecting this upward trend to continue for the rest of the year,” she said.

The video will be disseminated on social media and YouTube throughout South Australia, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. A dedicated version is also planned for New Zealand.

Earlier this month, Destination Gold Coast sent out postcards to residents of Sydney and Brisbane, personally written by tourism operators and local personalities such as Giaan Rooney and Mat Rogers.
