DOA launches social cause challenge worth $5K

DOA, the social purpose consultancy founded by Ebony Gaylor and Thinkerbell’s Adam Ferrier and Margie Reid, has launched its first social cause challenge, calling for innovative business and brand-led ideas that can tackle a social or environmental issue.

The winner of the challenge will be awarded a $5,000 investment from the consultancy and a mentoring session with its founders.

Gaylor said: “When it comes to tricky or complex issues, we spend too much time thinking. We need to stop looking for the perfect solution and start taking action that builds momentum for change. The DOA Action Challenge is for people who are passionate about social and environmental issues, but also up for less talk and more walk. Big change is built on small, considered actions.”

DOA, which stands for Decade of Action, launched in July last year under the idea that businesses only have ten years to take action to drive social and environmental change to protect the planet.

The challenge comes in recognition of the social issues that arose in 2020, such as the bushfires, COVID-19, Black Lives Matter protests and elections, and how this has heightened consumers’ expectations for businesses to become more accountable for their impact on the environment and society.

DOA will also invest 20 hours of support into the winning idea to help put it into development, help those involved make industry connections, or launch to the public. The consultancy is not seeking ownership of the idea.

“DOA is in a fortunate position to help identify and foster great ideas. That’s what this challenge is all about. We challenge everyone to join, who’s got a good idea and looking for a way to apply it to propel change. We want to grease the wheels of the social cause entrepreneurial market – although admittedly that may not be the most apt metaphor,” said Ferrier.

Applications are now open will close at 5pm on 1 March. Submission require a one minute video, 500 word description or visual representation of the idea.
