Football gets a new look with launch of A-League, W-League and Y-League logos

For the first time since the launch of the Hyundai A-League, the Football Federation Australia has completely revamped the look of the competition with new logos and a fresh approach to its branding that will incorporate club colours for the first time.

The FFA has been working with design house Hulsbosch for a year on a redesign that CEO David Gallop hoped would convey the energy of the sport as it it continues to grow.

Coming on the back of the FFA signing a new six-year broadcast deal with Foxtel, and ahead of the league offering games to free-to-air broadcasters, Gallop said the new look was also designed to reflect the unity of the sport.

“Football has recently been confirmed as the number one club-based participation sport in Australia and we’ve just signed a new six-year broadcast deal so it’s a great time to reveal a new brand for our leagues,” Gallop said.

“The work we have done with Hulsbosch gives us a strong brand platform demonstrating the unity at the heart of Australian football.”

The revised look of the code ties in with the FFA’s 2020 vision for the sport.

Hulsbosch director Jaid Hulsbosch said the agency was originally briefed to revise only the A-League logo, but research revealed that a piecemeal approach to branding would fail to help the FFA meet the 2020 objectives.

“We needed to rebrand football, the whole code,” Hulsbosch said.

“The decision to allow club colours to be reflected in the branding is also a first for Australian sport.

“The A-League brand is not the hero, the clubs are the heroes. With this strategy it is really about the unlimited potential the A-League has, but also all of football.”

FFA has launched a unified logo across all its properties.

The new branding will be reflected right across the code and will be rolled out in the lead up to the 2017 season in all corporate and marketing collateral, events, digital, sub brands and special programs, including the ALDI MiniRoos junior participation program.
