Free to a good home – and no, it’s not a dog
Most of us can probably still remember what it was like when we were first trying to break into the industry. The endless coffee runs, photo copying, sorting the mail… staring at the wall. Oh, to be an intern again.
Well, one student from the University of Wollongong seems at least to be embracing such a challenge, posting an ad on the Mumbrella jobs board with the title: “FREE to a good home – Sydney“.
According to the ad, the student who is in her final year of a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in marketing, is looking to do some work experience at an ad agency during her uni break.
And her main attributes are: “Has a great personality, is fantastic with people, well trained and possesses exceptional coffee fetching abilities.”
Well, you’ve certainly got to give her points for her realistic approach to the situation.
Aww, good luck to her!
Can’t help thinking I’ve seen something like that before… 😉

I remember putting an ad into SMH when I was trying to get my first design job out of college. The ad said I was willing to do pretty much anything – so it became a very important lesson in how NOT to write a jobseeking ad. When I received a call from a T-shirt maker who wanted to know if I would also model the T-Shirt once I designed it I decided then that I would have to use more conventional job seeking methods!

Cools, but would like to know how many interns actually sort mail and do coffee runs these days!
