Married at First Sight most popular program for Sunday Night television

Nine’s Married at First Sight has maintained its top position for Sunday night TV seeing 1.157m metro viewers tune in to watch the vow renewal ceremony.

Last night’s episode shocked viewers when Nadia decided to continue her somewhat questionable relationship with Anthony, as Susan decided to leave Sean and his farm life behind, and was the most-watched program of the evening.

Married at First Sight was also the most-watched program across key advertising demographics 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54, according to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings.

Seven’s rival reality TV series My Kitchen Rules, also aired at 7pm and averaged 1.114m metro viewers – ahead of last Sunday’s 1.020m.

Despite being beaten in metro figures, My Kitchen Rules saw a larger national audience of 1.642m than Married at First Sight’s national number of 1.639m. National figures include metro and regional affiliate stations where programs are broadcast.

In an attempt to boost its ratings and subsequent overall audience share Ten’s airing of US sitcom Modern Family averaged 376,000 viewers in the 7pm timeslot. The show replaced The Biggest Loser: Transformed after it was axed from its Sunday spot last week. 

Last Sunday night Ten saw an overall audience share of 7.5% and last night the channel dropped slightly to a share of 7.4%.

ABC comfortably beat Ten with a 15% share, however, Seven won the night with 24.9% ahead of Nine’s 20.1%. SBS came in fourth position just behind Ten with 5.2%.

The 8.30pm battle saw Seven’s Sunday Night top the timeslot pulling 909,000 viewers, second to ABC’s Vera which attracted a metro audience of 780,000. Nationally Sunday Night grabbed 1.363m ahead of Vera’s 1.142m.

The 7pm episode of Modern Family averaged 504,000 viewers nationally while the 7.30pm airing grabbed 542,000 national viewers.

The Formula One World Championship Race aired during the day on Ten and managed 701,000 metro viewers but saw 959,000 tune in nationally.

In sport Seven’s AFL afternoon football match between the Adelaide Crows and GWS Giants saw 386,000 viewers tune in. 112,000 of those metro viewers were in Melbourne watching the 56 point defeat by the Crows.

In a close Sunday night news battle Seven News grabbed 1.052m in front of Nine News’ 1.051m.
