Indeed aligns with Nine in jobs battle against Seek

Recruitment giant Indeed has aligned with Nine in a commercial deal which will pit the jobs brand against the News Corp aligned local market leader Seek.

The partnership, which will see Indeed commit a significant marketing budget to Nine’s news mastheads, kicked off on Friday with cover wraps of The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and the Australian Financial Review.

The Nine and Indeed masthead wraparounds

News Corp threw in its lot with Seek in 2016 after accepting defeat with its own efforts in the space, CareerOne.  News Corp had launched CareerOne in 1999 in a bid to grab classified ad dollars which were moving from print to online, but the site failed to fire and was overtaken by nimbler rivals such as Seek. In 2008 News had entered into a joint-venture with Monster Worldwide to offer combined online and print recruitment services through the CareerOne brand.

Indeed claims to be the biggest jobs site globally and began to target the Australian market in 2013.

The partnership which will see Indeed advertise across Nine’s online platforms. The deal also includes a branded content series, a dedicated jobs forecast distributed through Nine’s mastheads, and a weekly sponsored Ask the Expert section in My Career.

The Indeed partnership, which is focused on Nine’s former Fairfax news mastheads, will see Indeed sponsor the MyCareer and Money websites and have in-article job listings across smh.com.au, theage.com.au, brisbanetimes.com.au and WAToday.com.au.

Rowley: Influential audience

“This is a landmark partnership for both us and Indeed,” said Matt Rowley, Nine’s Director of Sales – Publishing. “Indeed is recognising the influential audience of businesses and jobseekers they can reach each and every day through our titles, both online and in print.”

“Indeed’s mission is to help people get jobs. Every month more than four million job hunters in Australia come to Indeed to find jobs that can’t be found on any other site,” said Paul D’Arcy, senior VP of marketing for Indeed in a statement.

“This partnership connects Indeed to communities all over Australia through Nine’s incredible national reach.
