When is a propaganda channel not a propaganda channel?
Dr Mumbo notes that News Corp’s The Australian is extremely concerned this morning that the ABC rebroadcasts some content from Qatar-based news “propaganda” channel Al Jazeera.
This is, of course, an entirely different matter from the fact that the News Corp-aligned Foxtel has been broadcasting Al Jazeera into Australian households for most of the decade, and continues to do so.
Do, Dr Mumbo, the fact ABC’s is taxpayer-funded doesn’t make it any different?
I know you’re gunning for the hypocrisy angle, but essentially that’s what you’re saying

Robbo — Surely if The Australian are calling Al Jazeera “propaganda” and are spinning it to seem like the ABC are indirectly supporting Islamic militants, then we could spin the same exact assumption onto Foxtel and News Corp?
I don’t think taxpayer funding is relevant to the hypocrisy.
IF, and only IF, Al Jazeera / Qatar are CONFIRMED to be supporting militants would the taxpayer element would be relevant.

Personally I haven’t seen anything anti-semetic in the Al Jazeera global content that comes through. When they launched into the UK they had a number of respected journalists on board.
But regardless – Given that pretty much everything owned by News acts as a propaganda channel, this stinks of the usual Murdoch hypocrisy.
