Screen Australia will move its office from Kings Cross to Ultimo this week in what the body describes as an initiative that will save over $2m over ten years.

As Ruth Harley, the current CEO of Screen Australia, prepares to step down at the end of this week, she says the agency has reduced its overheads by around 40 per cent since the merger between the Australian Film Commission, Film Finance Corporation and Film Australia to form Screen Australia in 2008.

The relocation is estimated to help save Screen Australia around $200,000 a year over the 10 year lease with the fit out will be paid for by the owner of the new office as part of the lease incentive.

In its current office  in William Street, Screen Australia’s staff of around 100 people are spread across three floors, where they have been since the merger.

The new office in Jones Street is said to be an upgrade into a more modern, open and energy-efficient space where staff will be located on a single floor. It is also just a short walk away from the ABC headquarters in Harris Street.

Screen Australia will close for business from 3pm tomorrow and remain closed on Friday for the move and the new office will open on Monday, four days before Harley is due to leave the job.

Graeme Mason, the New Zealand Film Commission CEO, will start as CEO on November 11.
