TikTok partners with Sydney Mardi Gras, launches pride campaign

TikTok has signed on as an official media partner of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras this year, celebrating with the launch of its TikTok Visionary Voices list and pride campaign, ‘#YouBelongHere’.

Through a year-long program, TikTok will be amplifying voices within the LGBTQIA+ community through the Mardi Gras Visionary Voices list, showcasing 13 creators, small businesses, partners and the significance of embracing authenticity.

The voices will continue to use TikTok as a platform of education, entertainment and advocacy, but in an amplified manner.

“The LGBTQIA+ community is one of the strongest and most vibrant communities on TikTok, and we take great pride in spotlighting, celebrating and uplifting this amazing part of our community,” a TikTok spokesperson said.

“We’re committed to amplifying the voices of our diverse creators as they continue to reach new audiences, build careers, and drive a positive impact in Australia.

“TikTok’s Visionary Voices will be at the centre of TikTok’s and Sydney Mardi Gras’ festivities, and throughout 2024, will continue to remind us that pride is a year-round celebration worth embracing each day,” the spokesperson added.

The pride campaign, #YouBelongHere, will be showcased across the Visionary Voices list and content, as well as during the Sydney Mardi Gras celebrations.

The Visionary Voices include actress Rebel Wilson, singer-songwriter May-a, content creators Sofia Ligeros, Mitch Greer and Lindyn Rowland, as well as small business owners Josh Jessup and Matt Moss (Josh & Matt Design), Eitan Broude and Esther Rix (Styled by Esther).

Gil Beckwith, CEO of Sydney Mardi Gras, said: “Our partnership with TikTok is a fantastic expression of our shared journey towards greater visibility and connection within the LGBTQIA+ community.

“TikTok has emerged as a vital platform for the voices of the LGBTQIA+ communities, enabling individuals to share their stories, celebrate their identities, and find a sense of belonging.

“This partnership magnifies our collective efforts to foster an environment where everyone can be their authentic selves, freely and proudly,” Beckwith concluded.
