Allan Johnston gives thumbs up to new “C’mon Stevo” jingle

Leo Burnett Melbourne has launched a campaign for Cricket Australia putting a new spin on the well-known “C’mon Aussie C’mon” jingle. But is it as catchy?

The new TV ad created to promote the summer cricket series, features the famous jingle written by Allan Johnston and Alan Morris back in 1978, changing it to “C’mon Stevo C’mon”.

‘Sacrilege!’ some of you might be saying. Or if you’re like me, you may just think it doesn’t have the same infectious quality as the original.

Well, I wanted to find out what Johnston himself thought about the ad.

Speaking via satellite from his local pub, Johnston told me: “I think they’ve done a good job. The change from talking about the cricketers to the consumers to get them into the game is a good idea.”

So there you have it. From one of the godfathers of adland himself. It appears Stevo is a hit.
