Dr Mumbo thought the barrel has been scraped when social media guru Laurel Papworth attempted to turn Sydney’s Martin Place hostage situation into a debate about the role of social media managers.
But food store thr1ve managed to out-tacky her with this Instagram post promoting their “delicious” food.
It’s since been removed.
Heeeeezzzzooooooosssssss!

I can see it as tacky, although I’ve had more than one (okay… two) CBD-working friends say on FB that they can’t find anywhere open to eat around there today because everyone’s shut up shop but they themselves can’t (or won’t) leave work yet, so it is somewhat useful info…

Idon’t think the Thrive one is bad.
They are just telling people their restaurant is closed, but their other one is open.

It’s just the tone that is a bit insensitive. No need for the exclamation mark – something like “MLC store closed, trading as usual at Westfield”

Hi all,
We deleted the post as we realized that this could have been taken the wrong way – and we do apologise for that. We wanted to show love and support and also let people know of our store closure.
We are very sorry if it didn’t come across this way, our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved.

It started out informative but got deliciously! tacky shortly thereafter.

More accidentally insensitive. Silly, but not mercenary. No barrels being scraped here.

Not really sure why a small cafe that probably doesn’t even have a media manager is being singled out for a post which just gets the inflection slightly wrong. What about Rupert Murdoch’s tweets overnight? Surely more worthwhile fodder…

Agree with Michael above, this is hardly the worst example of social media use, or more importantly media coverage.

This seems a bit hash to single these guys out. They were notifying of the store closure mostly.

Agree with the sentiments above. If only it didn’t include “delicious” or the exclamation point, it would’ve been fine to me. A little cringe-worthy but not horrific. Papworth on the other hand…

Murdoch’s tweets overnight were horrific, as were Laurel Papworth’s during the siege.
Ironic that she is apparently a social media ‘guru’ who doesn’t appear to know how to use social media. IMO her tweets were a self-indulgent disgrace.
The Thrive post was naive rather than anything else, and they deserve credit for posting above and acknowledging their mistake.

This is hardly the biggest issue we need to even worry about FFS.
