I have a few comments regarding Dan Bradley’s interview.
He mentioned that the last survey was the first full Classic Rock Survey which, by the way, had no marketing behind it….every survey vega went through had very minimal if any marketing behind it in both Sydney and Melbourne so it seems it’s going to be ok to make excuses for Classic Rock but there are no excuses for vega.
I have seen this question asked quite a bit and even I have put forward the question of what year is defined the cut off as Classic Rock? The likes of Jimmy Barnes(solo), Cold Chisel, AC/DC, Eagles, U2, Bruce Springsteen etc etc etc are still producing new material now but this new material will not be played because they aren’t Classic.
I will agree with you Dan on one thing, classic rock is more than Stairway to Heaven. However, if I am a classic rock fan (the music, not the station), chances are I have all the classics I like on CD or ipod as they are readily available on compilations or I can make up my own favourite classic rock CD’s from my own library which may include B side tracks or whole albums.
The fact is there is nothing else on Classic Rock to keep me interested. No interesting and intelligent conversation in any shift. Your news service is nowhere near good enough to keep me listening when compared to AM or even WS. I tried giving you guys a listen as I want to like it but I cant. I cant stand the live stuff you played all the time!! If I want to hear an artist live I will go to their show or buy the DVD because there’s more to a live performance than just the music. There’s the atmosphere for one which really does not come across on radio. I would much rather buy the Live DVD because a live performance is a visual thing.
Dan, you also mentioned here that it was a very difficult decision to let Dicko and Dave go but with a rating of 2.3 and trending downwards it wasnt acceptable, however you wont say what is acceptable? Sooooo, if the new breakfast show only rates at a 2.5 is this acceptable? Or is a 3 acceptable? A 3.5 maybe? If the show goes backwards to a 2 is this acceptable or will things be changed once again? I ask this regarding Sydney as well. You said that the only breakfast show below them was MTR however they are a new brand that are still developing. Um….you had only just finished talking about how Classic Rock is a brand new radio station that is developing and will take time…I am confused.
If it’s a brand new station that has been launched as DMG keep telling everyone and vega is a distant memory that was closed down would this not mean that the new radio station’s breakfast show should have been given the same consideration and time to deliver as the new format?
Dont tell me it wasn’t a new breakfast show because after all, we’re talking about a brand new radio station not vega because that was closed down.
Why cant you just tell the truth and admit that moving away from announcers in both Sydney and Melbourne were cost cutting measures because the brand was losing money and someone had to take the fall. Better that be the people delivering the radio station management were directing them to than the management making the format decisions themselves.
