DoorDash Australia looking for marketing lead to further grow ‘challenger brand’

DoorDash Australia is looking for a head of marketing to oversee brand and performance marketing in Australia across the three sides of DoorDash’s marketplace: consumer, Dasher and merchant.

DoorDash general manager, Australia Rebecca Burrows, told Mumbrella that the addition of the role to the Australian operations was part of the brand’s strategy to “hire the best talent in Australia to lead our growth”.

“It is time for us to ramp up and shout a little louder about DoorDash,” she said.

The successful applicant will be responsible for defining the marketing strategy for Australia, hiring and scaling a team of local marketing experts, collaborating with Burrows, the international operations team, and global marketing team and owning growth KPIs for the market.

“You’ll be responsible for multi-million dollar monthly budgets in a high-impact, highly-visible strategic role that touches multiple sides of our market: consumers, dashers, and merchants”, the job description added.

“We are investing in this market, building local product and engineering teams and a local marketing leader will help us to move quickly and in the most relevant way for all audiences in Australia,” Burrows told Mumbrella.

“Whilst we have the backing of a global success story (DoorDash is the market leader in the USA) we know we are a challenger brand here in Australia and we need to create the local insights, local expertise and local strategy to win in the Australian market.”

According to Burrows, DoorDash has grown rapidly in Australia, and now covers more than 80% of all Australian consumers, and has more than 25,000 partners on its platform.

“We have scale, we are nimble and we are merchant focused,” she said. “Our vision is to create convenience for Australian consumers – imagine a world where you can get everything to your door in under 45 mins – that reality is not as far away as you may think.”

Recent marketing initiatives for the brand include tie-ups with the NRL State of Origin in Townsville, LCO League of Legends eSports and Disney Drive Ins across Australia. In December 2020 DoorDash appointed Wavemaker Melbourne to its media account locally.

The GroupM agency will handle media strategy, planning and buying for the San Francisco-based startup, ahead of its expansion into Australia.

“We brought Sydney and Melbourne Night Noodle Markets at home and you will definitely see more of us at various NRL fixtures such as the Women’s State of Origin and the NRL finals,” Burrows said. “…you can expect us to paint the town red time and time again as we become one of Australia’s most loved brands.”

Applications for the role are still open.
