MFA EX and awards rescheduled due to ongoing restrictions

The Media Federation of Australia (MFA) has decided to reschedule its industry conference, MFA EX and the MFA Awards 2021, following ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in both Melbourne and Sydney.

The new dates for MFA EX: Media For All Effectiveness Expo are Tuesday 23 November in Melbourne and Thursday 2 December in Sydney.

The Awards and gala dinner will follow the Sydney event on the evening of 2 December.

MFA CEO Sophie Madden commented that after a difficult 18 months, it is more important than ever to have an industry coming-together in person, and to celebrate everything great about the industry.

“While the MFA Board made the decision last year to postpone MFA EX and the MFA Awards to 2021, we are committed to going ahead this year and we will. We believe it will have a huge impact on the morale and momentum of our industry, providing a chance to reconnect, tackle challenging conversations and celebrate the wins. Changing the date to December allows for more time for Sydney to get the current COVID-19 outbreak under control and it’s the ideal timing for an all-industry end-of-year celebration. We will continue to provide our members with updates as the situation changes.”

This will be the second edition of MFA EX, with the first being held in 2019, and last year’s edition being cancelled as a result of the pandemic.

The 2021 edition was originally slated to go ahead on 7 October in Melbourne and 14 October in Sydney, with the awards similarly following the Sydney event.

This will be the first edition which includes a Melbourne event, with the MFA expecting 600 attendees, in addition to 1,500 media professionals in Sydney.

In June, comedian Claire Hooper was announced as this year’s host of the MFA Awards evening.

The MFA said that its awards ceremony celebrates the most effective and inspiring media thinking in Australia, and has done for the past two decades. MFA EX was created as an accompanying event to educate and inspire the industry to create world-class work, with agencies, marketers, publishers and tech partners all participating in sessions at the conferences.

Last month, Wavemaker CEO Peter Vogel was announced as the newest member of the MFA Board, being reappointed after a six year absence.
