Sharon Strzelecki stars in new Google Pixel campaign from 72andSunny, PHD and EssenceMediacom

Google and 72andSunny have launched a new campaign for the newly launched Google Pixel 7, with Magda Szubanski’s iconic Sharon Strzelecki character demonstrating some of the products most innovative features. 

The timely campaign comes a month after the television series of Strzelecki’s debut, Kath and Kim was announced to be returning in a two-part special, via Network Seven later this year.

Directed by Al Morrow from Rabbit, the spot follows Strzelecki on a day out with her netball team, helping to communicate to Australians that Google’s Pixel ecosystem of products – including the Google 7 Pixel and 7 Pro, Google Pixel Buds Pro and Google Pixel Watch – are stronger and more helpful than ever. 

Strzelecki asks Google to help her speak Japanese in a sushi restaurant, sets reminders via her Pixel Watch, and demonstrates the magic eraser feature to erase a rival netball player from her team photo on the Pixel 7 camera.

You can see that enthusiasm come through in Sharon and all the beats she delivers in this spot. Our director Al cleverly made sure there was plenty of space for Madga’s improv, and we were all in stitches on the set. It was an honour, and the realisation of a long-held dream, to work with both Madga and Sharon.”

Media for the campaign was handled by PHD and EssenceMediacom, with the film set to run on TV, BVOD and online video, supported by a wider integrated marketing campaign for the Google Pixel 7 across OOH, radio, online and social.
