Eddie Betts learns latte art in latest Google Pixel campaign

Google Australia has launched the latest phase of its AFL partnership, promoting the Google Pixel in a new spot starring AFL legend Eddie Betts.

Created by Google Australia’s agencies, 72andSunny, Essence and PHD, the new Pixel brand film follows on from recent AFL collaborations in the Nest Security and Helping You Help Them, the latter having last week taken home the Mumbrella Award for Ad Campaign of the Year.

The creative positions Google Pixel as the phone that supports and celebrates your individual passions, powered by Google’s most advanced camera yet. Through the lens of the Pixel camera, the spot follow Betts in his attempts to create the perfect latte art. Betts uses his Pixel to document his efforts and demonstrate key Pixel features such as Portrait Mode, Ultrawide Lens and Magic Eraser.

The spot is set to run across TV & BVOD, alongside an integrated comms plan driving sales of Pixel 6a.

The campaign also builds on last year’s Google Pixel Real Tone work created by 72andSunny, which celebrated the Pixel’s inclusive camera.

“Alongside our exciting product launches this year, we wanted to showcase Pixel’s unique ability to support Australians in their everyday lives. Using the AFL as our creative platform, and through the lens of the Pixel camera, we take you through a day in the life of Eddie Betts and his unexpected passion for latte art,” said Julia Davis, head of devices & services marketing, Google AUNZ.

“The entire country already knows Eddie Betts is a legend on the field, but like all of us he has other passions and hobbies – like his passion for making the perfect latte. When Google briefed us on the Pixel, a phone that ‘helps you express your unique self’, we knew the opportunity was to create an unexpected story around someone that all Aussies know and love, but with a twist. Thanks to Eddie and his family for sharing his unique passion with us all, working with the AFL Legend was rad, he is truly a legend on and off the field.” said Luke Martin, ECD, 72andSunny ANZ.
