Sydney Water aims for water use reductions via Shane Jacobson

Sydney Water has released a new TVC, ‘Turn it off, Bob’ featuring comedian and actor Shane Jacobson to promote water-saving tactics.

In the first spot of an oncoming campaign series via Clemenger BBDO Sydney, Jacobson plays title character Bob, who has the fire brigade called on him after taking a lengthy, and steamy shower.

The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness around how much water Sydneysiders are using. Jacobson’s ‘Bob’ is seen enjoying a long shower, causing steam to emerge from his house, causing his neighbours to think his house was on fire.

Maryanne Graham, general manager, customer, strategy and engagement at Sydney Water said: “We’ve had great success in reducing water consumption through education campaigns that traditionally run during the hotter Summer months. This campaign highlights that it’s the behaviours we adopt all year round that ultimately help us keep water in our dams in periods of low rainfall.”

Clemenger BBDO Sydney executive creative director, Brendan Willenberg said: “We needed a way to remind Sydneysiders to think twice and be water wise. Bob is a ripping character to deliver this message in a tongue-in-cheek way and Shane is just perfect for the role given his incredible personal commitment to water conservation. There’s lots more of Bob and his handy waterwise hints coming this year, we can’t wait to share it.”

Graham added: “Just one drop of water per second dripping from a shower or tap, adds up to 7,000 litres of water each year, so shaving a minute off your shower can help us save millions of litres each year.”

This is the first work that Sydney Water and Clemenger BBDO Sydney have created together. Sydney Water had previously worked with Havas Group on similar water reduction campaigns.

The campaign was has across TV, OOH, digital and social. The character Bob will feature in future campaign collaborations between Sydney Water and Clemenger BBDO set to run as an episodic series across the spring and summer, including during The Ashes tour.
