800 Words returns to less viewers than debut; Zumbo’s Just Desserts gets hammered by The Block

The return of Australian drama 800 Words on Seven attracted a metro audience of 877,000 last night, down sharply on the 1.21m viewers that watched the opening episode of the first series.

The second outing for Zumbo’s Just Desserts, on Seven, also lost ground, with its audience tumbling more than 250,000 on debut, or 23%, to 830,000.

It was beaten in the 7:30pm slot by Nine’s The Block, which drew 944,000 – down on Sunday’s opener and Monday night’s second show, but enough to make it the most watched non-news show of the evening.

The Block was also the most watched show across all key demographics, which helped Nine capture an audience share of 20.2%, behind Seven on 22%. ABC drew 12%, ahead of Ten with 11.8% with SBS on 5.8%.

Seven’s 800 Words, which aired directly after Zumbo’s Just Desserts, was up against the James Bond movie Quantum of Solace on Nine which attracted 502,000.

Ten’s most watched show was The Project at 7:00pm which attracted 746,000 metro viewers, up from last week’s outing of 572,000.

Over on ABC, Catalyst drew 735,000, up from 594,000, while 685,000 tuned into Forces of Nature with Professor Brian Cox at 8:30pm.

News again took the top four slots, led by Seven, with audiences of 1.14m at 6:00pm only to fall to 1.12m for its 6:30pm combination with Today Tonight.

Nine News at 6:00pm drew 1.01m, rising slightly to 1.02m at 6:30pm.
