Air New Zealand trials in-flight AR headsets with key information about customers
Air New Zealand is trialling Microsoft’s augmented reality viewer Hololens in-flight, to explore how cabin crew can use the tool to improve their in-flight duties.
The airline has been working in partnership with Dimension Data on unique software which could be used in future to aggregate and display key customer information when serving them on a flight.
Information can include meal and drink preferences, onward travel and loyalty membership details and could allow the cabin crew to create a paperless in-flight system.
Air New Zealand’s chief digital officer Avi Golan said the brand has fostered a strong culture of experimentation with new technologies, with the airline already using auto bag drops, face-to-passport recognition and Airband, a wristband for children travelling solo, allowing parents and guardians to track their journey.
Commenting on the new software trial, Golan said: “This software is a great example of us collaborating with other partners and exploring how technology could enhance the way our people work as well as the experience they deliver to our customers through greater personalisation.”
Between this and VMO’s DART 2.0 I fear it’s advertising that will lead us into a dystopian future, not some tyrannical government.
