Advideals joins LilBirdie in group buying space for ads

A start-up called Advideals has joined LilBirdie in Australia’s group buying space for media and advertising.

Launching later this month, Advideals will also offer heavily discounted media, but has positioned itself as more of a platform for trading traditional media than LilBirdie, which has focused on offering deals for niche media, such as digital screens in convenience stores, branded napkins in food courts and hot air balloons.

Advideals’ launch press release read: “From print publications to radio and online, AdviDeals secures significant discounts on a range of
advertising opportunities in some of Australia’s most well-known media.”

Co-founder Mike Brown told Mumbrella that the focus of the platform would be to appeal to small to medium-sized businesses which haven’t advertised before.

“Eighty per cent of businesses in Australia are small to medium sized, but I think these businesses find advertising really intimidating. We want to make it easier for them to do business,” he said.

Deals will be offered mainly via Advideals’ Facebook page, which  currently has around 900 ‘likes’. “It’s growing quite quickly, and we need that number to rise to around 10,000,” said co-founder Brenton Tickner.

Tickner added: “Research shows that the service will be popular with a range of business types and sizes. The feedback has been that we won’t be replacing any ad budgets or schedules, but will allow marketers to try new types of advertising at a discounted rate to reduce the financial risk.”

Samantha Tannous, founder of LilBirdie, which announced last week that it had opened up its platform to media buyers, said the launch of Advideals was “ultimately good for everyone.”

She told Mumbrella: “We are in the fortunate position of being first in the market, and we welcome competitors, because it’s growing the space. If you look at what happened with group buying businesses in the consumer sector, new competitors added momentum, and we think the same will happen here.”
